-The Dutch DAF has been labeled as outdated and lacking in sportiness since the start of passenger car production in 1958. Typical DAF customers were not young, trendy men, but rather conservative age groups that focused on durability and reliability over design and visual delicacy.
-In the 1960s, DAF tried to get a sporty driver only once to reverse its reputation. But it was not a short-term dream story, but trying to pursue seriously, the management team contacted Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. He made a minor change to DAF 44 and he received an order to design a sports car.
-The DAF's guiding principle was to develop a small but profitable market and to stand out from the competition. The car was designed to make BMW, Porsche, Ferrari feel a little bit more, and one or two nuances of the other competitors. The overall silhouette was visually balanced. It was already decided that the car could be named 40 GT.
-Unfortunately, there was almost no information leaked about the 40 GT. The prototype (without the attached engine) exhibited at the DAF Museum today was completed in 1965, but so far little details are known.
