--The Harrier is the world's first practical vertical take-off and landing aircraft developed by Hawker Siddeley of the United Kingdom, and the AV-8A is the GR.1A (internal name is Harrier Mk.50) adopted by the United States Marine Corps in 1971.
--The Spanish Navy decided to hire a Harrier in 1973, but could not purchase it directly from the United Kingdom, which had an arms embargo policy against the Franco administration, and the AV-8A was once handed over to the United States and used for training. Was transferred to the Spanish Navy with the AV-8S.
