--South Dakota is a US Navy battleship and the name ship of the South Dakota-class battleship.
-Equipped with three .45 caliber 40.6 cm triple turrets, it was able to sail at a speed of 27 knots comparable to the Yamato-class battleship of the same generation.
--When completed in March 1942, it participated in the Battle of the Santa Cruz in October of the same year and the Third Battle of Solomon in mid-November. Participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and participated in the Battle of Okinawa after March, following the Battle of Ioshima in February 1945.
--South Dakota has received 13 Service Stars for these military achievements.
