- The M4 is a medium tank developed by the United States in World War II.
- It is one of the representative tanks during the war because it was provided not only to the United States but also to Allied countries, and many were active on each front. -Started development by using the body of the M3 medium tank, which had been in mass production since 1941, and equipping it with a circling turret.
- A mockup was completed in May, and a prototype in September. In October, it was decided to be formalized as an M4 medium tank.
- And in February 1942, when production began, the first to start mass production was the M4A1, which adopted an integrated casting for the upper body.
-Because there were fewer processes than the welded body M4, the start of mass production was quicker, and it became the first mass production model.
-In the early model, the main gun was equipped with a 37.5 caliber 75mm tank gun M3, but from 1943 a type equipped with a more powerful 76.2mm tank gun M1 appeared.
- Improvements were made such as adopting a wet ammunition storage filled with water.
