[About the actual machine]
- After first flying in 1970, the F-14 Tomcat entered service in 1974 and served as the U.S. Navy's main air superiority fighter until its retirement in 2006.
- Developed as an aircraft carrier-based aircraft with the primary role of fleet defense, the aircraft is capable of carrying long-range air-to-air missiles, AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, and short-range air-to-air missiles, AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, in order to respond to threats to the fleet, including enemy missiles, and is equipped with an M61 Vulcan cannon.
- In addition, it was equipped with the AN/AWG-9 radar, which is essential for the operation of the AIM-9, and in combination with the Phoenix missile, it had the ability to simultaneously track 24 targets from a distance of approximately 160 km and attack six of them at the same time.
