[Actual vehicle introduction]
- The Kumouni 81, six of which were newly built in 1950 as a mail and baggage train for the 80 series, which was introduced as the Shonan Train, had an exterior design, including the front shape and paintwork, that was consistent with the 80 series train (second generation).
- Around 1955, on the Tokaido Line Tokyo side, a maximum of 16-car trains were in operation, consisting of a 15-car 80 series electric train coupled with a KuMoUni 81.
- Since 1961, the building has undergone renovation work, which has resulted in exterior changes such as the front windows being supported by H-shaped rubber supports.
- After the renewal, they continued to be used on the Tokaido Main Line, but after October 1968, when the "Yon-Santo Revision" was implemented, the three KuMoYuni 81004 to 006 were transferred to the Toyohashi Locomotive Depot, and spent their time on the Iida Line until they were scrapped.
- The three brothers, known as KuMoNi 83101 to 83103 during their time on the Iida Line, retained their Shonan livery immediately after transfer, and retained the model number designation [KuMoUni 81] until 1970.
- In particular, there is a photograph of KuMoUni 81005 with its body paint changed to Yokosuka colors before the postal mark was removed when the mailroom was abolished in 1969.

- Headlights and front train number display are in warm white, taillights are in red
