[About the actual car]
- During World War II, the German army was equipped with a large number of half-track type vehicles, which had tires on the front wheels and tracks on the rear like tanks.
- Among these, a simplified type of half-track, which used a truck chassis and modified the rear to be tracked, was collectively called the Maultier and was produced by Opel, Ford of Germany, and other companies.
- When production began in 1942, the vehicle was deployed mainly on the Eastern Front, where the terrain was extremely muddy depending on the season. With its excellent off-road capabilities, it was used not only to transport supplies, but also tow various types of artillery, as a self-propelled gun equipped with a carrying handle, and as an ambulance, and various other types were made and saw widespread use.
