- The 10-series passenger cars, which took the world by storm with their revolutionary lightweight structure, saw their numbers increase and various derivative models were born.
- Nalo 10 is a second-class passenger car, of which 33 were manufactured from 1957.
- It had a wide, tapered body and deep roof similar to the third-class sleeping cars that had appeared the previous year, and the sides were lined with 12 rows of single-level drop windows, which were common to the 10-series passenger cars, in the same order as the seating arrangement.With its colorful appearance, it played a major role in the heyday of passenger express trains, including the Tsubame, Hato, and Hatsukari express trains.
- After express trains were replaced by electric trains and diesel railcars, they were converted into passenger express trains, and there are records of them being used mainly on express trains connecting the Kyushu region and Tokyo, and on express trains connecting the Kisei Main Line and Tokyo.
- From 1967, air conditioning was gradually installed, and due to the increase in weight, the type was changed to ORO 11.
- The deep roof was modified to a shallow roof to accommodate air conditioning, completely changing the image, but the sides remained the same, retaining the lightweight special characteristics.
- Due to the serious deterioration of the car body, all cars were retired by 1975.
- Oro 11-30, which is equipped with a round AU13A air conditioner, is allocated to the Shinagawa passenger car depot, and there is a record of it being used for the express train [Kii].
