Product Description

- The winged rocket ramming missile was a manned surface-to-air weapon project designed by the Imperial Japanese Navy based on the Shusui gunpowder rocket.
- In 1945, the Navy ordered the Civil Aviation Bureau to develop a special local fighter as a countermeasure against air raids on the mainland. The Bureau decided to develop a radio-controlled anti-aircraft guided missile, and in March of the same year began development of the Shusui gunpowder rocket.
- The Shusui gunpowder rocket was not equipped with explosives, and instead used the ram of the front of the aircraft to ram into enemy aircraft, making it more like an unmanned aerial vehicle than a missile.
- With a bullet-shaped fuselage and a strong, sharp design for the tip and leading edges of the wings, this aircraft was designed to be launched from a rail-mounted launch pad, ignite a solid-fuel rocket, and ascend under radio guidance. It would reach an altitude of 9,000m in just under 100 seconds, at which point it would ram an enemy aircraft, then glide and land, after which the rocket would be replaced and it would be reused.
- The Shusui gunpowder rocket was planned to be manufactured by Kawasaki Aircraft, but the end of the war meant the project was cancelled before production could begin.
- The kit being released this time is a three-dimensional reproduction of the manned version, complete with cockpit, that was left as a rough sketch.
