[About the actual machine]
- The F-35A Lightning II is the aircraft the Japan Air Self-Defense Force has begun deploying as a successor to the F-4 and F-15 fighter jets.
- It is a fifth-generation multirole fighter jet developed internationally, led by Lockheed Martin of the United States.
- This single aircraft was designed to be capable of a variety of missions for not only the Air Force, but also the Navy and Marine Corps.
- While they share the same basics, they have different specifications depending on how they are used.
- The F-35A, a conventional takeoff and landing aircraft, was developed for the Air Force.
- The aircraft is equipped with a single Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan engine.
- The aircraft has a highly stealthy shape and is equipped with a weapon bay, within which missiles and other armaments can be stored.
