[Actual vehicle introduction]
- Mani 30 (second generation) is a baggage car for transporting cash, six of which were manufactured between 1978 and the following year.
- Due to its intended use, its external features include the lack of windows in the cargo area and the inclusion of special radio equipment, and its operation was not made public, making it a vehicle known only to those in the know.
- It was taken out of service in 2003, and the last number, 2012, is currently preserved at the Otaru City Museum.
- The Mani 30 was mainly seen being used in conjunction with freight trains.
- In principle, when it was a loaded car it was usually coupled next to the locomotive, and when it was an empty car it was often coupled to either end of the train, and a through canopy was installed on the end panel on the conductor's side to allow for passage between other baggage cars.
- However, in the November 1986 revision, mail and baggage trains were completely abolished and the couplings were changed to container trains that connected cities as quickly and without stopping as possible, so the gangway canopies, which were no longer in use, were removed.
- In addition, a unified radio antenna was installed to accommodate the development of train radio, and this was the state the train was in when it was privatized and divided into two.
