[Actual vehicle introduction]
The E721 series was introduced by JR East in 2006 to start direct service following the opening of the Sendai Airport Railroad and to replace aging trains in the Sendai area.
The adoption of small diameter wheels and compact underfloor equipment has made it possible to lower the floor significantly compared to conventional vehicles, and the elimination of the step between the platform and the vehicle has promoted barrier-free access. The interior is fitted with semi-cross seats, and the larger seat dimensions provide ample space.

There are various variations of the E721 series, and the same type of trains are also introduced by third-sector companies. The SAT721 series was introduced exclusively for the Sendai Airport Transit, which provides access from Sendai Station to Sendai Airport.
The exterior features a body painted in the symbolic colors of "clear blue" and "orange," a large luggage storage area where travel suitcases can be easily placed, and the absence of side windows in that area. The seat color is "azalea purple," which gives an image of warmth and brightness, giving a different impression from the blue-based design of JR East's vehicles.
Since their introduction, the three two-car sets have been in active service between Sendai and Sendai Airport in joint operation with the E721 series 500s, and the two can also be seen coupled together in operation.
