- Limited Express Sonic mainly connects Hakata and Oita via Kokura (Kagoshima Main Line/Nippo Main Line), and the blue metallic 883 series and the white 885 series have long served that role.
- In this work, I took the 883 series and boarded the limited express Sonic 23 from Hakata to Oita.
- After leaving Hakata, it runs parallel to the Sanyo Shinkansen for a while.
- Take the Kagoshima Main Line towards Kitakyushu.
- There are sections that join or branch with the Sasaguri Line and Kashii Line, and run parallel to the private railways Nishitetsu and Chikuho Electric Railway.
- Shortly after arriving at Kokura, the direction of the seats in the car changed all at once and the direction of travel changed.
- From Kokura, take the Nippo Main Line and head south to the Chikuho area in Fukuoka Prefecture.
- The landscape also changes from commercial to residential.
- Shortly after passing Yukuhashi, cross the prefectural border to Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture.
- You can see colorful spring flowers here and there in the countryside, partly because it is the season for cherry blossoms and rape blossoms.
- Especially the row of cherry blossom trees in front of Kitsuki Station is a great view point.
- Finally, you will arrive at Oita where the Hohi Main Line and the Kyudai Main Line connect with Beppu Bay on your left.
