- In Japan, the 1982 Toyota Supra, based on the Hot Wheels motif, was released as the second generation (A60) Celica XX (Double X).
At the time, the name Supra was only used for the North American model, but when the next-generation A70 model was released, the Japanese model was also unified under the name Supra.
- The first-generation Celica XX (A50 model) was originally positioned as a luxury Celica, but with the introduction of the new Soarer to succeed it, the A60 model was reoriented to become a sports car equipped with a large engine that could be used worldwide.
- It attracted attention as a futuristic new car, with a front mask equipped with retractable headlights that rise up when the lights are turned on, and a digital speedometer inside.
