──DD51 Aichi Locomotive Depot specification reproduced

[Actual vehicle guide]
- The DD51 type was introduced in 1962 as a diesel locomotive for main lines to replace main line steam locomotives such as the C57 type, and was used on non-electrified sections of the country except for Shikoku.
- The same type was divided into series depending on whether it had a multiple-unit overall control system or a steam heating system, and many of the 800 series, which were introduced for freight use without SGs, were inherited by JR Freight when the Japanese National Railways was privatized.
- Aichi Locomotive Depot will be in charge of the last regular operation of this type of locomotive until March 2021, and most of the locomotives deployed there are in the 800 series.
- Some JR Freight DD51s underwent renovation work in the 2000s, but the cars that underwent renovation were originally painted blue.
- Vehicles that underwent renovation work after 2004 were painted in a new red-based color, and blue-painted vehicles were gradually changed to the new color by around 2010.
- The DD51s of the Aichi Locomotive Depot were mainly used on the Kansai Main Line, and in winter, oil transport freight trains with longer formations and freight trains operated on the Kisei Main Line were often operated in multiple units, and various combinations of DD51s were seen.
