Until before the war, the Keio Line, which connects Shinjuku and Hachioji, was run by small, 14-meter-class carriages that still retained the look of streetcars.
During the war, it was merged to become part of the so-called "Daitokyu" line, and when it separated after the war in 1948, the Keio Line and the Inokashira Line (the former Teito Electric Railway) were combined to form a new Keio Teito Electric Railway. However, since the line mainly consisted of small cars and many of them had been lost in war damage, increasing transportation capacity was a pressing issue.
So in 1950, the 2600 series, the first 17m class car, was manufactured, and in 1953 the 2700 series was introduced, adopting a design based on the Shonan train with two windows on the front (the so-called Shonan face) that was popular on railways around the country at the time.
This design was carried over to its successor 2000 series and 2010 series, which offered improved performance, and this series of vehicles became the mainstay of the Keio Line after the war.
However, when the successor 5000 series, which attracted attention for its innovative ivory body, appeared in 1963, express and other express train operations were handed over to these new cars, and these green Shonan-face trains were called ``Green Cars'' and continued to play a modest role.
This group left the Keio Line in 1984 and was transferred to local subways around the country, and currently only one remains on the Choshi Electric Railway (formerly the 2010 series), which is currently in final operation.
