Product Description
Kiha 54 Series 500 General Diesel Car, Finished Product
Starting in 1986, the Kiha 54 Series 500s were manufactured to replace the aging general-purpose diesel railcars in the Hokkaido region, with specifications for extremely cold regions. Cars 501-526 were general-purpose, while cars 527-529 were express-purpose, with a total of 29 cars newly manufactured in the latter years of the JNR era. Taking into account the regional characteristics, the driving engine was a powerful type equipped with two engines, with the aim of operating with one car during snowfall. This resulted in a significant improvement in acceleration performance compared to conventional cars. In addition, the structure is designed to allow the installation of equipment for one-man operation in preparation for future one-man operation.
U-TRAINS will manufacture trains based on the original specifications from the JNR era (DT22 bogies/original underfloor equipment), the one-man specification after the takeover by JR (after bogies and underfloor equipment were updated/N-DT56 bogies), and the current specifications after the body strengthening work carried out from around 2008.
To express the complex stainless steel paintwork of the Kiha 54 series 500, the sloping passenger windows are produced from pressed material, painted individually, and then fitted in. To express the stainless steel of the crew doors, passenger doors, etc., separate stainless steel parts are attached.
We will also be manufacturing a new dedicated bogie, N-DT56, specifically for our Kiha 54 series.
This time, we plan to reproduce the charm of the Kiha 54 as faithfully as possible and create a product that will satisfy everyone.
The sales price per completed car is expected to be around 200,000 yen.
[B-TYPE One-man, underfloor equipment renewal vehicle, N-DT56 bogie specification]
Since around 2004, changes have been made to the underfloor transmission, updated underfloor equipment, and bogies, and we will be producing standard and express specifications of one-man car types in which the front whistle has been moved to the roof.
The front typhoon was moved to the roof, this type was changed to a one-man car, external speakers were installed next to the passenger doors, and the color of the underfloor equipment was changed to black.
The express version retains the red line on the body, but it has been switched from express use to rapid and local trains, and the interior cross seats have been changed to moss green.
