[About the actual car]
- JR East's local lines still have many non-electrified mountain routes, and the Kiha 58 series that had been used up until now had low engine output and was manufactured more than 20 years ago. The Kiha 40 series that was manufactured afterwards also had not made any significant improvements in terms of performance, which was an obstacle to speeding up and providing service on these non-electrified local lines.
- To replace old diesel railcars, the Kiha 100 series diesel railcars were developed as the next generation of diesel railcars with performance on par with electric trains and new onboard facilities, in order to wipe out the traditional image of diesel railcars that had continued since the days of the Japanese National Railways.

[About the model product]
- We have produced the Kiha 110 series 100 series with a body made mainly of plastic and an undercarriage made of metal. Headlights, taillights, and interior lights are standard equipment, and the rooftop cooler and underfloor fixtures are made of white metal.
- Powered by Canon coreless motor LN14 general-purpose double shaft + φ10.5mm WB26.0mm MP gear system. The dolly is die-cast DT-50.
- The body of this product is made of plastic and the paint is printed. Therefore, please note that there may be some irregularities in the shading and unevenness compared to normal paint.

[Specification change information (announced July 2013)]
- There will be changes to specifications (letter stickers and price) from the August 2013 shipment.
(1) The JR mark (black), which was previously sold separately (specially at Model Plaza Endo), is now included.
