-The EF63 type electric locomotive was developed as an auxiliary machine for trains running between Yokogawa Station and Karuizawa Station (Usui Pass) on the Shinetsu Main Line, with a maximum steep gradient of 66.7‰. . Always assembled with two EF63-type cars, it was connected to the Yokogawa side of all trains running between Yokogawa Station and Karuizawa Station, and was active in pushing up (propulsion) the train going up the slope and towing the train going down. Due to the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen on October 1, 1997, the same section was discontinued on September 30, the day before, and the EF63 type was discontinued in 1998. The primary form of the product is a group manufactured in 1963, and Units 11 and 12 are still preserved in motion at [Usui Pass Railway Cultural Village] in Gunma Prefecture and are used for driving experiences.
