- It was the first supersonic aircraft independently developed in Japan.
- First flight in 1971, operation started in 1974, active until 2006.
- The engine is equipped with two TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines from Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 1.6.
- It was divided into the early type used for the training of the combat operation basic course without weapons and the late type used for the subsequent combat operation course training, and the late type was also equipped with a machine gun.
- The T-2, which has started operation, is active in training elite pilots who protect the skies of Japan.
- It is said that 1450 pilots grew up in the T-2 before retiring.
