Product Description

- In 1957, the Maritime Self-Defense Force adopted the anti-submarine patrol aircraft version of the Sikorsky S-58 as the HSS-1, so Mitsubishi Heavy Industries knocked down 20 aircraft in 5 years from 1958, and among them the aircraft registration Symbol JA7202 was transferred to the Japan Coast Guard and installed on the Antarctic research ship [Soya].
- JA7202 supported wintering observations by piston transport between Syowa Station and proved the practicality of helicopters in polar expeditions ahead of the world.
- Soya is also known as the first ship in Japan to operate a helicopter.
