- The F7F was the US Navy's first twin-engine, single-seat fighter, with its first prototype flight in 1943, and its top speed far surpassed that of the Navy's mainstream fighters of the time, the Hellcat and Corsair.
- Armament consisted of four 50-caliber machine guns and four 20mm cannons, as well as rockets, bombs and torpedoes.
- On the other hand, it was judged to be too heavy due to heavy armament, and the cruising speed was too fast and the deceleration distance was insufficient, so it was judged that it was impossible to land on an aircraft carrier at the time, so it was decided to lower the priority of production.
- However, due to their excellent cruising/top speed and good fuel economy relative to their payloads, most Tigercats were deployed to Marine Corps squadrons operating from land, either as reconnaissance aircraft or in night combat. used as a machine.
