- The Grant is the British version of the American M3 medium tank.
- After losing a large number of tanks at the Battle of Dunkirk in 1940, Britain signed a contract with the United States to build British-designed and modified M3 medium tanks for the British Army.
-The 7.62mm machine gun mounted turret-type cupola was changed to a hatch, and a large turret equipped with an in-vehicle radio was provided with an overhang at the rear. It was called General Grant, or simply Grant, after its commander, General Ulysses S. Grant.
- Like the M3 medium tank, the Grant was easy to spot by the enemy due to its high vehicle height, and although it had drawbacks such as the limited firing range of the main gun's 75mm gun, the Crusader was equipped by the British Army at the same time. Mechanically more reliable than cruiser tanks, it was used in anti-tank combat until the Germans withdrew from North Africa in May 1943.
