- The Lenticular Re-entry Vehicle (LRV) is a flying vehicle designed by a project researched in the United States since 1959 during the Cold War era.
- The shape of the lenticular air-to-air defense missile [Pie Wacket], which was originally intended to be mounted on the XB-70, was thought to be suitable for re-entry aircraft due to its heat resistance. Even after the [Pie Wackett] project was canceled, research continued as a manned reentry vehicle.
- The LRV project was classified in 1962, but released to the public in 1999.
- According to published data, the LRV is a semi-disc with a flattened rear end, approximately 12 meters long, and will carry nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) and hydrazine (N2H4) to support a four-person crew on a six-week orbital mission. In addition to the rocket engine for propulsion that uses fuel as fuel, it was equipped with a nuclear reactor for power generation, and in addition to the cockpit, the aircraft was equipped with a living space for the crew, including beds, an exercise space, and a dining table.
- During the Cold War, it was believed that LRVs capable of attacking from orbit had better stealth than ballistic missile submarines, which had to approach the coast near the target when attacking. An orbital bombing mission was planned by equipping it with a re-entry vehicle with a small atomic warhead.
- During the mission, it was envisioned that the X-20 Dyna Soar spacecraft would destroy an enemy satellite attack weapon, and then the LRV would carry out an orbital bombardment.
- Kit includes landing gear, missile bay, small re-entry vehicle parts and one US Air Force decal.
- When completed, the total length will be approximately 172mm and the total width approximately 235mm.
