- BMD-2 is an infantry fighting vehicle developed based on BMD-1 exclusively for airborne troops.
- The hull is the same as the BMD-1, but the main gun's 73mm low-pressure gun has been replaced with a 30mm machine gun, so the turret has also been newly designed.
- It is still in use today as a vehicle that can strengthen firepower and mobility, which are weaknesses of airborne troops.
