- Akagi is an aircraft carrier of the Japanese Navy. Construction began as a battle cruiser at the Kure Naval Arsenal under the 1907 Eighty-Eight Fleet Plan, but construction was halted due to the conclusion of the Washington Conference and the Treaty on Disarmament, due to the restrictions of the treaty. It was converted from a battlecruiser to an aircraft carrier within the framework.
- The ship was originally completed as a three-stage aircraft carrier, but was later converted to a single-stage carrier.
- Akagi advanced to the Indian Ocean after participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and engaged the British army in the Battle of Ceylon in April 1942.
- She sank along with Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu in the Battle of Midway in June of the same year.
