- The Douglas DC-8 is a large jet airliner developed by the American Douglas Aircraft Company. Along with the Boeing 707 and the Convair 880, it was one of the first generation jet aircraft, and was also the world's first passenger aircraft to fly at supersonic speeds.
- -40 series The -31, -32, and -33 aircraft were equipped with British Rolls-Royce's Conway 12, and the British pilots were hesitant to choose the unfamiliar Pratt & Whitney engine. It was aimed at recruiting airlines from Commonwealth countries such as Canada and the Bahamas.
