- She was completed on July 31, 1897, as an excellent ship with high speed and strong armament, fulfilling the expectations of the Japanese Navy when war with the Qing Empire became inevitable.
- While on route to Japan, war broke out and she was detained in Aden by neutral Britain, so she did not arrive in time for the Sino-Japanese War.
- Although its performance could not be called cutting-edge during the Russo-Japanese War, it accompanied the 1st Squadron during the Battle of the Sea of Japan and played an active role in supporting squadron actions.
