[About the actual car]
- The Sd.Kfz.167 Sturmgeschütz IV was an assault gun developed by Krupp starting in February 1943, using the chassis of a Panzer IV tank.
- The development of the StuG III was also driven by the fact that the StuG III, which was already in service, demonstrated excellent combat capabilities in defensive battles during the latter stages of the war, and there was a growing demand for assault guns on the front lines.
- In addition, in 1943, the factory where the Sturmgeschütz III was produced was damaged in an Allied air raid, and production came to a halt.
- Official production of the Sturmgeschütz IV was to begin as a replacement for the Sturmgeschütz III.
- The initial type had the fighting compartment of a Stug III Ausf. G mounted on the body of a Panzer IV Ausf. H tank.
