- Due to the limitations on the number of nuclear warheads imposed by START II, in 2001 the US Navy decided to remove the first four Ohio-class submarines from strategic roles and convert them into cruise missile submarines.
- As of 2019, construction work has been completed on four vessels, including the replacement of ballistic missile launchers.
- The ship's type was changed from SSBN, which stands for strategic missile submarine, to SSGN, which stands for cruise missile submarine.
- Specifically, 22 of the 24 ballistic missile launchers were converted to Tomahawk launchers, and the remaining two were converted to lockout chambers for the Navy SEALs.
Some of the Tomahawk launchers may also be equipped with small submarines (ASDS) or dry deck shelters instead of Tomahawks depending on the mission.
- Each Tomahawk launcher is equipped with seven Tomahawk missiles, for a maximum of 154 Tomahawk missiles in total.

- Periscopes and other vessels can choose between a surfaced state and a submerged state.
- Decals and etchings are also included. Screws are available as either plastic parts or etchings.
