[About the actual car]
- The Sturmgeschütz III, which used the chassis of the Panzer III tank and mounted the main gun in a fixed fighting compartment, was created primarily for the purpose of supporting close-combat infantry.
- The III-Z was originally planned as a close-combat support vehicle for infantry, but when it came to fighting against the heavily armored Soviet tanks, it was required to serve as an emergency tank destroyer, and a vehicle equipped with a more powerful long-barreled 75mm gun was created.
- The E type was the last type equipped with a short barrel, and was equipped with a 24-caliber 7.5 cm assault gun StuK37.
- An estimated 272 vehicles were produced between September 1941 and March 1942.
- They were deployed on various fronts, including the Eastern Front, and continued to fight until the end of the war.
