[About the actual machine]
- The flagship aircraft, the F-15J Eagle, is based on the U.S. Air Force's F-15C, which first entered combat service in 1974, but is equipped with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's own equipment, including its own tactical electronic warfare system, J/TEWS, and an equally unique data link system.
- Deployment of the aircraft began in 1982, and they continue to play a key role in Japan's air defense to this day.
- The 203rd Squadron at Chitose Air Base, one of the units deploying the F-15J, was established on June 25, 1964.
- Then, in 1983, the F-15J began to be deployed to replace the F-104J that had been in operation until then.
- In June 2024, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the unit's founding, a specially painted aircraft was unveiled with the number 60 on the tail and a large illustration of the unit's insignia, a bear wearing a red kimono to celebrate its 60th birthday, on the back of the aircraft, attracting a lot of attention.
