Product Description

- The SR.N1 (Saunders-Roe Nautical 1) was a practical hovercraft built in 1959 by Saunders-Roe Nautical Corporation under the auspices of the British National Research and Development Authority.
- The SR.N1 was powered by a single air-cooled radial engine driving a lift fan and propelled using a ducted fan.
- Its first voyage was in June 1959, and in July of the same year it successfully crossed the English Channel in about two hours. This led to many companies becoming interested in the SR.N1, and with their financial support the SR.N1 was fitted with a soft air skirt and a more powerful engine.
- SR.N1 was donated to the Lawton Science Museum by Westland Aircraft, which acquired Saunders-Roe in 1964, and is still on display there today.
