[Cowpens (CG-63)]
- The Cowpens is the 17th Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser.
- 27 Ticonderoga-class ships equipped with the Aegis system were built, and this ship belonged to the fourth construction batch.
- The name "Cowpens" comes from the Battle of Cowpens during the American Revolutionary War.
- The USS Cowpens was laid down by Bath Iron Works on December 23, 1987, and commissioned on March 9, 1991.
- Cowpens primarily deployed as part of a carrier strike group to areas such as the Western Pacific, Persian Gulf, and Indian Ocean.
- During the 2003 Iraq War, the US launched a significant number of Tomahawk cruise missiles at Iraq.
- In September of the same year, Cowpens visited the port of Zhanjiang in China.
- This was the first time a US warship had visited Zhanjiang since 1949.
