Product Description
──20 years dedicated to Shikoku! DF91 type!
[Actual vehicle introduction]
The DF40 is an electric diesel locomotive, one of which was jointly manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Rolling Stock in December 1955.
It features a rounded body with two horizontal windows at the front and five round windows on the side.
The paint color was an innovative light blue with yellow stripes.
The engine was manufactured by the German company MAN and became the basis for the later DF50-500 series.
After various tests, it was put into service in November 1956, at which time its paint colour was changed to black with yellow stripes.
It was renamed DF91 in October 1961, and underwent two paint changes (from gray/vermilion with Kintaro paint on the front to gray/vermilion with white stripes), and in 1965 it was modified to have a through hole at the front to make it easier for crew members to pass through when operated in combination with a DF50. It continued to be used in service, but was retired in February 1975 due to its aging.
