The 485 series 3000 series is a limited express train that was introduced in 1996, mainly as a result of renovation work to the 485 series 1000 series.
The 485 series at Aomori Depot was deployed as a 6-car train for the Shiratori service and a 4-car train for the Tsugaru service (since 2010), and also had intermediate car units for additional cars. During peak periods and on weekends, additional cars were added to make 8-car trains.
From around 2004, the undercarriage and bogies were changed to grey, and in 2010 the orientation of the train was changed to unify the customer service facilities within the train with the 789 series.
The train supported transportation on the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line until its discontinuation in March 2016 due to the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, and was then retired.
