The Yo 8000 series was introduced in 1974 to replace the previously used caboose and brake van, and is characterized by its design based on the conductor's room of the Kokifu 50000 series.
Even after the termination of the caboose connection at the end of the JNR era, a small number of these remained, and they were mainly used for oversized freight trains and some Class A transports.

<8767> is not equipped with taillights or interior lights, giving it the appearance of being coupled to modern freight trains!
After the takeover by JR, it was used for extra-large freight trains and some Class A transports.
When it is out of service, it will be combined with a regular freight train and run.
When the train is coupled to the rear of the train, a rear reflector is often installed and the taillights are turned off.
