The A6M Zero Model 52 A (commonly known as the Zero Fighter Model 52 A) was a type of Zero Fighter Model 52 with an increased ammunition capacity for the 20mm machine gun.
The original Model 52 was equipped with a Type 99 20mm Model 2 machine gun, Model 3, mounted on the wing and could hold 100 rounds of ammunition in a drum magazine, but the Model 52A was modified to use a belt-fed Model 4 gun, capable of carrying 125 rounds of ammunition.
The mounting position of the updated 20mm machine gun has been moved forward, so a trapezoidal cover has been added to the base of the gun projection on the leading edge of the wing.
In addition, the original Model 52 had a teardrop-shaped bulge under the wing to accommodate a drum magazine, but the Model 52A was changed to a belt-fed system, so this bulge was eliminated.
Furthermore, all Mitsubishi Type 52A aircraft were equipped with a short heat-resistant plate, a characteristic of Mitsubishi aircraft, at the exhaust port of their thrust-type single exhaust pipe.
In this product, these differences have been carefully reproduced using a new mold.
In particular, the appearance of the Zero equipped with Mitsubishi's short heat-resistant plates will be depicted in three dimensions for the first time in a 1/48 scale plastic model of the Zero fighter.
Markings include decals for aircraft belonging to the original 343rd and 221st Air Groups.
In particular, the aircraft belonging to the 343rd Air Group is currently on display at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Hamamatsu Public Relations Center.
