The ED79 Series 50 is an electric locomotive manufactured by JR Freight in 1989 to increase the number of freight trains between Aomori Signal Station and Goryokaku on the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line.
The ED79 type was repainted differently from the conventional ED75 type, and the front window was angled upwards and had an icicle cut (eaves) on the top of the front window, giving it a different appearance.
In principle, freight trains were pulled by two cars connected in parallel, and the unique feature was that only the pantograph on the Hakodate side of the car was always in use, regardless of the direction of travel.
They continued to be used together even after the introduction of the EH500 series, which was capable of direct access through the Seikan Tunnel in 2000, but were replaced by the dual-voltage EH800 series, which was introduced prior to the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, and were retired in 2015.

The number plate parts have been reshaped to make it less likely that the cut edges will remain. The width of the plate has also been reduced, making the margins of the letters less noticeable.
The TN coupler uses the short arm shape for the ED75 and 79 types. Newly set gray molding color!
