This was my first Kotobukiya build and I must say I am sorely disappointed. The joints are really stiff and the shoulders come off with the slightest movement. The top most torso piece doesn't stick well if it does at all, building the hands around the weapons is a hassle but at least they don't fall off so that's OK, though a pain to get them in there. Don't recommend this build because of it's many flaws, but if you can get past them, then go for it, the colors are accurate at least.

As the only injection kit in this scale, this model kit enjoys a very high price. Nevertheless, I can see Wave tried hard to lower the cost of the kit. Some parts are molded in a single piece instead of multiple pieces (e.g. S2 and the surface details on the missile pods.) This approach reduces the cost but compromises the finish of the kit. After all, I am pleased to see this kit in the market, good job Wave!

Kotobukiya brought the protagonist Dolores of Zones of the Enders to scale modelers. High price. Big box. Flip-up Japanese instructions. Part trees in individual bags. Parts nearly perfectly colored molded. 2 pilot figures. 3 pairs of hands. 3 weapon hands. Transformation between unarmed & fully armed. Action base. Decals. Complicated assembly. Snap fitting. Amazing articulation. Opening cockpit. Painting is optional. Loved the kit.

I'm an inexperienced modeler, but I really enjoyed building the Blockhead. This is the first model I've built that I'm not completely ashamed to share pictures of. It's quite large compared to the Korchima and Dougram 1/72. The antennae were quite fragile (or I am clumsier than average) and I managed to snap both of them during assembly. I chose a couple of non-standard paint schemes, green tint on the visor and a metallic red for the body.

Fitting box art. Gigantic box. Snap-fitting. Parts in red, yellow, light gray, dark gray, black, white, clear blue & clear green. Factory painting (the eyes & light blue strips & markings). Polycap joints. Color instructions. Average articulation. 3 pairs of hands. The machine, designed by Masami Obari for pilot (figure included) Kohta Azuma, is equipped with Kaiser Boomerang (axe) & Over Kaiser Sword.

A great model, but has only 2 weapons. Still, looks great and feels great, but has the standard Kotobukiya problems:
Be careful with the shoulder pieces- the ball they fit into is too tight, so sand it down before you even try to put the shoulder on it, or the whole thing will just stuck and break. Lost one shoulder that way, but at least saved the other one.
The sole piece might crack a little as well- only happened to one foot though, the first one was fine.

Pros: Kotobukiya modern engineering, factory painting (even the eyes), snap fitting, pair of fists & palms, good articulation. Cons: whole leg can pop off when posing too much, upper shoulder claymore hatches pop off every time they open, front skirt armors can't flip up after assembly. I did priming, shading, touching up, panel lining & sealing.

Wave, Founded in 1983, released this FSS kit in 2011. I love Mamoru Nagano's armor-plates-over-skeleton mecha designs. Not an easy translation from anime to a scale model, let alone it was done by underdog Wave. Box art used photos of the painted kit. No-frill instructions. Some fitment problems. No poles & holes in some parts. Gluing was a challenge. Huge amount of recessed lines & markings.

I haven't painted this yet, but still, it's gorgeous. And it the stand it comes with is pretty great as well. A great looking model and it's fun to build. I'd definitely recommend it.

After a few more broken parts, it became clear that the gundam maker that I used is actually responsible for the cracks. So do not make the same mistake, the liquid oil-based gundam markers that are used for quick washing or panel lining, will eat away the plastic on Kotobukiya models. The regular markers work fine and do not cause any problems.
2015/07/21 2:13:21

Xanzen
Overall a very intricate and beautiful model, but beware- some parts might fall to pieces, even without some obvious stress. This also happened to the knee joint on one leg. I would suggest to sand down the knee pegs a little, to avoid that, since they are too tight, and the plastic just shatters.

So, overall, the detail and the design are really amazing, but unfortunately it is too brittle to play with, like the gundam models, so have some glue on hand.

Look at the picture 8, only you would have to paint the rest of the leg of the same color, the choice of medium

One of the Tactical Surface Fighters In the Muv-Luv: Alternative franchise is Shiranui Vanguard. The Kotobukiya kit was filled to the brim. Instructions were simple to follow, not overly crammed. Color molding. Water decals offered 10 pilot markings. Huge folding shield. 2 Melee Halberds. 2 Assault Cannon. No daggers. 3 BETAs. So so articulation. I changed the color scheme to Shin Shiranui & modified it quite a bit.

One of the Muv-Luv Tactical Surface Fighters is Shiranui Japan Empire Custom. Kotobukiya first released this kit in 2012. My copy didn't include BETA. I'm not sure why they don't make a weapon + BETA set & sell it separately like High Grade Build Custom. The cheaper TSF kits don't have all the arsenal. This TSF is a very simple build. I changed the color scheme to that of old Imperial Japanese warplanes, shaded, weather & sealed the model.

Kotobukiya has been producing lines of scale models kits since 1983. One of them is Muv-Luv. The mecha is called Tactical Surface Fighter. The Tarisa Manandal was made of quality material, full of details, equipped with 2 Jump Units (propulsion), 2 Assault Cannons (rifles), 2 Melee Halberds (swords) & 3 hands. It has adequate articulation. Some clear parts. Parts of a BETA. The red one is Tsukuyomi Mana Custom.

Tomytec, founded in 1924, has been producing lines of toys such as Plarail (play rail), Transformers, Zoids, etc. One of them is Zoids Hangar. Package was small. Instructions were Japanese. Minimal to non-existent mold lines. Assembly was easy & snap-fitting. Lot of panel lines & details. Modular design. You can glue multiple bases or just lay them together. At least 2 bases needed to fit 1/144 gunpla or 1 base for the Loto in my photos.

Engineering scale models since 1983, Kotobukiya portrayed the Takemikazuchi in a realistic form. The mecha hovering around the ground & flying in a squad formation in the anime is a sight to behold. This model has a few color versions. The red version is 00F Tsukuyomi Mana. The kit is comparable to a gunpla high grade. I'm liking Kotobukiya's scale models.

Kotobukiya outdid itself by adapting the original Jehuty to a scale model. No small feat. See my Vic Viper review too. Both kits are comparable to Gunpla Master Grade. I think the overcomplicated assembly meant to hide seam lines & skip painting. No putty used. I airbrushed, flowed thinned light blue & black through the panel lines, lightly weathered with Tamiya & applied a semi gloss. A work of art.

Kotobukiya engineered the Zone Of The Enders Vic Viper scale model kit for Konami. Big packaging. Artistic illustrations. Japanese magazine-like instructions. Computer-drawn & real model photos diagrams. A bit over-complicated assembly. Color molding. Snap fitting. Water decals. I airbrushed, panel lined, weathered (Tamiya), sealed the model. The kit can transform between the mecha & fighter plane. Stand included.

wasnt sure to buy, then glad i brought it, BUT you might notice i have Left & Right HANDS on my model (this is not supplied) i got the hands from the NEW MkV kit (spares left over). worth doing seem to make sense to, (as you can see from pic 1) it partners with the others nicely, and is the accomplice to SNAKE EYE model kit (just like Fireball with Prowler etc...) paint work design is MUSTANG PLANE colourings.

this is the original boxed kit version then you would think that it would go together as EASY as the Melsine ground type but no this space version (its the body) its slightly more fiddly to build, (3 handed job nearly) patience is needed, where as Melsine is amazingly easy to build.
2014/12/01 1:57:14

a MUST BUY IT model's (my surprise no'1) two kits in one box, (2) transfers white & black so no worries if model painted dark or light in colour 100/10, (3) very stable standing up & without the hover-boots on, (4) amazing detail 10/10 again.

Hasegawa is one of the best scale model manufacturers. The kit was well made. The box art was beautifully drawn. The instructions were clear even to foreigners except for the Japanese-only paint chart. The decals had just the right softness & some weren't needed. I wish they made all the white ones so no white paint was needed.

When I heard there was going to be a new zoid released from Kotobukiya I got excited "Maybe its going to be something new and something different" I thought. Then I see this and that quickly died. ANOTHER liger? I mean there's nothing different than the one that was released ages ago, except the Leon pilot instead of the stock that's it. Pass this, I would to buy another Kotobukiya Zoid..if they made something different, this is a huge disappointment.

A amazing model to build and display, has lots of little details and the finished product is stunning to look at. My only grumble is its size which is pretty small and unable to show the finer details of the model without looking close up. It makes for a perfect table top display for everyones desk

I have built this model twice and i would build it again if i had another one. although not very mobile due to the fact that it is 3/4 the size of the normal hoi hoi san, it's still very cute and pretty. it is a very easy model to build as well it took me about 5 hours if not less. i recommend it to anyone who wants to take a break from serious model making and have some fun.

The colors on this really make it pop! It really makes its design stand out alot more than the previous Shadow Fox release. The Shadow Fox looked a little bit too drab for my tastes but I am glad that I pre-ordered this little fox and can't wait for him to be in my collection!

i was surprised the luna pawn didnt have the same bigger back unit as this one then it could have had room for fitting jets to it like all the other space one's ( i did put jets on my model, unfortunately before this model was released) i painted this snow version in grey and white then changed it to a king penguin as seen in the photo above, which is my model.

At first glance, this is a very expensive kit for its size. At a closer look, I would say this is the most detailed kit from Wave so far, easily more detailed than most EX models of Bandai. Unfortunately, Wave does not have as good the engineering skills as Bandai, and the details sometimes get in the way and must be removed. Not an easy kit to buid even aiming at OOB.
2013/07/29 9:09:07

Chiaro
The biggest problem of this model is its size. 1/144 is too small compared to the 1/72.
Wether you put it near other models or not, it looks small.

It is odd to see kotobukiya releasing every single muv luv mecha in 1/144 ...

Except that, it is still quite good, well equiped, and agile enough. However, the original color is way too bright, and the whole figurine absolutely requires a new painting...

That`s not the store fault. Every country has it`s own regulations regarding customs and Hobby Search can`t really do anything about that. If you think it`s too much, go complain to your local customs office or don`t buy stuff at all. You only have yourself to blame for not looking up info about your country customs beforehand.
