- EF53 is a passenger DC electric locomotive manufactured by the Ministry of Railways since 1932.
- It was born by improving the EF52, which became Japan's first large domestic electric locomotive, and 19 cars were manufactured by 1934, and it was active on the Tokaido Line after the Tanna Tunnel was opened.
-Because it did not have a steam generator for heating trains, after the war, it gave up the place of activity to EF58, etc., and was active on the Tohoku Main Line and Takasaki Line, but in the end all aircraft were used between Seno and Hachihonmatsu on the Sanyo Main Line. It was remodeled to EF59 which is an auxiliary machine and played an active part.
