- Bismarck was commissioned in August 1940 as the world's largest battleship, equipped with four 38cm twin guns and with a standard displacement of over 40,000 tons.
-Although it was supposed to be a central force of the German Navy along with the same type ship Tirpitz (commissioned in February 1941), it was a symbolic presence of the British Navy at the time in the first battle in the line exercise operation in the North Atlantic in May 1941. Although the battlecruiser Hood was sunk with a single blow, it was attacked intensively in the subsequent British fleet's pursuit of Bismarck, and reached its end.
