- Introduced by Amtrak to replace aging AEM-7 and HHP-8 electric locomotives operating on the Northeast and Keystone Corridors. Manufactured by Siemens and based on the design of the European electric locomotive EuroSprinter, the Cities Sprinter is a model unique to North America and is entirely manufactured in the United States. The prototype began operation in February 2014.
