- After being renamed ED50 to ED52 due to title revision in 1928, the gear ratio was changed for mountain routes from 1930 to ED17 and ED18 (first generation).
- Because they were imported, they were plagued by the supply of parts and failures, but after the domestic production of electrical parts due to post-war equipment renovations, reliability improved, and the Decker was named after the Dicker factory of English Electric Co., Ltd. ] It was affectionately called.
- Due to equipment renovation, all but one ED18 was integrated into the ED17, but for the group operating in the north where there are strict axle load restrictions when diverting to the Iida Line, a running axle was added to the center of the power bogie, and a new ED18 (second generation) was added. ).
