- The Fiat 500 was released in 1957 as a car developed to target a market similar to the light car market in Japan, something larger than a motorcycle but smaller than a regular car.
- As its name suggests, it was equipped with a 500cc air-cooled two-cylinder engine, and despite its tiny body length of just 3m, it could seat four adults. As an inexpensive car, it was a huge hit in Europe, especially in its home country of Italy, and approximately 4 million units were produced by the time production ended in 1975.
- Taking advantage of their small bodies, modifications were commonly made to make them faster, and Abarth, which later came under the Fiat umbrella and played a key role in motorsports activities, also gained popularity by producing modified parts and complete cars.
- The Hot Wheels version recreates the car's armoured appearance with over fenders and wide wheels just like those made by Abarth, and a fixed rear engine hood that allows it to be left open when driving to dissipate heat.
