[About the actual car]
- The Elephant was a German heavy tank destroyer from World War II that was powerful thanks to its long-barreled 71-caliber 8.8cm gun and heavy armor up to 200mm thick.
- Developed by Dr. Porsche for the Tiger tank, but rejected in a prototype competition with Henschel, a new fixed fighting compartment was added and a PaK43/2 71-caliber 8.8 cm tank gun was installed.
- One of its features was the unique drive system that used an engine-generator motor.
- 90 vehicles were built between March and May 1943 using the chassis prepared during the competitive prototype test.
- They were immediately deployed in the Battle of Kursk against the Soviet Union in July, where they demonstrated their capabilities.
- Although it suffered from problems due to its unique system and a lack of maneuverability due to its weight, it continued to fight bravely until the end of the war, including being deployed to the defense of Berlin.
