Product Description

- The Semovente da 75/18 or Semovente M40/M41 was an Italian assault gun of World War II.
- It is an armored fighting vehicle for infantry support, modeled after the German StuG III.
- Based on the chassis of the M13/40 medium tank, a fixed fighting compartment and a limited rotation Da 75/18 75mm howitzer were installed, and a prototype was completed in 1941. The earliest model was named M40/da75/18, standardized, and deployed in combat.
- The first 60 vehicles were built on the M13/40 hull, the next 162 on the M14/41 hull.
- Effective in ambushes from a low stance, with slightly thicker armor than the M13, and relatively low manufacturing costs, it was well received and is said to be the most successful combat vehicle of the Italian army during World War II.
- However, these evaluations were based on a relative perspective, and like the base vehicle, it had many shortcomings, such as an unreliable running gear, outdated armor secured with hexagonal pointed bolts, and a main gun mantlet that was prone to shot traps.
