Product Description
Due to popular demand, we are pleased to announce the long-awaited reproduction of the 1/72 Soviet Space Shuttle Buran from Ukrainian A-Model.
Buran is a winged spaceplane developed by the former Soviet Union in the 1980s, and "Buran" means "snowstorm" in Russian, specifically "steppe blizzard."
Although Buran is similar in design to the American Space Shuttle, its launch system is completely different.
Buran does not have a main engine; Energia, developed at the same time, serves as the payload to carry it into orbit.
Since Buran is not equipped with a main engine (the return retrorockets are mounted at the rear of the vehicle), the absence of a main engine and fuel tanks makes the Orbiter lighter and allows for a larger payload, and it also has the advantage of being able to reduce its landing speed, allowing for safer re-entry into the atmosphere.
Also, because it does not have a main engine, in the event of a rocket malfunction, Energia could be detached and return to the runway on its own using attitude control engines, etc.
Buran was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on November 15, 1988, and after two unmanned orbits of the Earth over a period of 206 minutes, it successfully landed automatically on the runway at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, where it was launched.
A manned flight was planned for 1992, but the plan was scrapped when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.
The fuselage and main wings of this A-Model kit are made from a single FRP part, while the cockpit interior, landing gear, vertical stabilizer, etc. are made from injection plastic.
When completed, the total length will be approximately 505mm and the total width approximately 332mm.
One type of decal is included.
