[Actual vehicle guide]
The EF64-1000 series is a DC electric locomotive that was introduced in 1980 to replace the old electric locomotives on the Takasaki and Joetsu lines.
Up until No. 1032, electric heating devices were installed for pulling passenger trains, but from No. 1033 onwards, they were used for freight and were not equipped with the devices.
When the Japanese National Railways was privatized, the No. 1001 locomotive was allocated to the Takasaki Vehicle Center, where it was used to pull event trains and the like in its brown body with a white stripe. In 2017, it was restored to the Japanese National Railways color scheme with gray H-rubber. The electric heating lamps were then removed, and it will be in service until November 2024.
At the time of privatization, No. 1051 to No. 1053 were assigned to the Nagaoka Rolling Stock Center and used to pull sleeper trains such as those on the Hokuriku Line, but No. 1052 and No. 1053 were transferred to the Takasaki Rolling Stock Center in 2015, with No. 1052 inheriting the brown paint job of No. 1001 and remaining in service until 2021, and No. 1053 remaining in service until November 2024.
Currently, the No. 1051 locomotive belonging to the Nagaoka Rolling Stock Center is mainly used for defrosting in the winter.
