The NH90 is the standard NATO helicopter for the 21st century. It contributes to a great extent to the interoperability of the armed forces of the European and allied nations abroad, within the framework of NATO and UN missions. On 13th December 2006 the first three tactical transport helicopters of the latest generation, the NH90 TTH, were handed over to the Federal German armed forces at the Eurocopter Works at Donauwörth. The German armed forces are the first customer for the NH90. Thanks to its versatility the NH90, which can carry 16 to 20 soldiers plus their equipment, is suitable for all types of land and sea support missions, such as troop transport, amphibious applications, search and rescue (SAR) missions or defence against terrorism. The twin-engine NH90 has electronic flight control systems that make it the most up-to-date multipurpose helicopter in the world. The NH90 programme, with 400 firm orders to date, is the largest helicopter programme ever established in Europe.
